I totally know what you mean! I have asked friends to let me smell their Taco Bell. That stuff is addictive even without eating it!

I love the flaky baked goods I've been eating and am happy to keep trying them, though they don't give me much of a reaction (if any) at all. I remember more whole grain stuff causing me the most problems. Between that and the reactions to gluten-free oats, it's likely I have a problem with prolamins rather than gluten (or just gluten). I'm probably going to have to keep eating the tomatoes and peppers, which stinks because they make me feel horrible, but the reaction is part of the whole process, I guess. And I still haven't had that burger and fries I've been thinking about...

Reading up on it, I'm finding it could take longer amounts of time than days to be significant. We'll see. :)

Hahaha I soooo have one of these too! Pho and an apple fritter are the only things I've tried on purpose since going allergen free at the beginning of the year. The pho didn't really bother me at all and it's one of my favorite foods so I plan to keep eating it, but I only ate the fritter (which had at least three things I am allergic to in it) because I was already having a reaction so I figured what was the harm if I'm already sick why not indulge. It was an ok fritter but it made me realize I don't miss baked goods like I thought I did, so all in all it was a beneficial experiment.

Right now though, I would have to say that homemade ice cream, a nutella and strawberry crepe, and kraft mac n cheese would top my list hands down. (Also, the running joke with my friends is that my allergies are keeping me from becoming overweight...judging by that list I would have to say it kinda seems like it.)

The one other weird thing that I do (and I have found my friends who have food allergies as well also do) is asking people to describe how good something is that they are eating. It's the weirdest food-porn thing ever but it started without me even realizing I was asking weird food questions. It is somehow super satisfying just hearing people talk about how much they enjoy something you can't have. Do you do that, too? It's kind of weird but it makes having allergies less of a pain, and gives you a reason to laugh at the situation (because it's super hard to sit there and be completely serious after you just asked them to describe the best qualities of the food they are eating, how creamy it is, or to describe the flavors as they eat the food).

Thanks for sharing your story Dorothy! My aunt has IC and in on dibisality as a result. It is amazing to see how many people (including one of her grown daughters) don't believe her condition is real. She is in horrendous pain and has a significantly impaired quality of life because of this condition. We have learned there is a hereditary component, and we suspect my grandma had it and was just never diagnosed. Thank you for sharing your story and spreading awareness. Wishing you all the best and lots of vanilla almond ice cream !

they could be more avtcie with it. I don't know if it is more avtcie or not. My son was diagnosed 11 years ago (he's about 12). He was diagnosed at 14 months. Weve been doing this celiac thing for quite awhile now i am sure Jenn has helped auite a bit. She is awesome and has done quite a bit with the community here. Kids, though, still need an outlet I believe. Getting kids to self advocate is a must! Thanks for putting the blog together!

I'm sorry you've gone through all that. Health is so frustrating to figure out - and it's so difficult to figure out what food might be affecting you. I'm still trying to learn if there are things I need to eliminate and things I can add back in. But I would be happy to talk with you about what you've been going through, as well. It always helps to talk with other people who are going through the same kind of thing. Take care!
